Laird Q. Cagan is Managing Director and co-founder of Cagan McAfee Capital Partners, LLC (successor to Cagan Capital, LLC) a private investment firm he founded in 1990. During the ‘90s Mr. Cagan invested in and helped build 15 high tech companies with over $500MM of equity capital invested in those companies. Since 2002, CMCP has founded, funded and taken public over 10 companies in a variety of industries including energy, alternative energy, healthcare, information technologies, payments and cleantech. CMCP portfolio companies have raised over $600MM of equity capital and over $2B of project development capital.

1:45 PM - 2:15 PM | Lennart Mucke, MD, Director and Senior Investigator, Gladstone Institute for Neurological Disease
Dr. Mucke is the Director of the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease. He is also the Joseph B. Martin Distinguished Professor of Neuroscience and a Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He has joint appointments in UCSF’s Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, and Medical Scientist (MD/PhD) Graduate Training Programs.
Dr. Mucke’s research focuses on processes that result in memory loss and other major neurological deficits, with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. He has generated informative experimental models of these conditions and used them to identify novel strategies to prevent neurological decline. As the founding Director of the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease, he has created a leading program for research and training in disease-focused neuroscience.

Andrew has been a tech investor and entrepreneur for over 20 years. He founded 1955 Capital to invest in transformative companies that can solve the most pressing issues in the developing world. 1955 was the largest venture capital firm debut in Q1 2016 and focuses on sustainability (energy, food, agriculture), education, health, and other emerging technologies.
Prior to launching 1955 Capital, Andrew was a general partner at Khosla Ventures, a venture capital firm with over $5 billion under management and the world’s largest sustainable technology venture portfolio. Andrew joined Khosla in 2011 as one of six partners leading the firm. He managed over $500 million in assets and has served as board director or helped advise more than 20 Khosla portfolio companies.
